The Department of Higher Education and Training is set to hold nationwide public hearings on the National Skills Development Plan (NSDP) and SETA landscape beyond 2020 (Re-establishment of SETAs) with the aim to address issues around producing skillful and capable workforce in order to create jobs and grow the economy.
The Public engagement which will be spearheaded by the National Skills Authority (NSA), a statutory advisory body established in 1999 in terms of Chapter 2 of the Skills Development Act (SDA) No 97 of 1998 with the primary functions of advising the Minister of Higher Education and Training on matters of skills development in accordance with section 5 of the Skills Development Act.
The robust public discussions will be held with skills development stakeholders such as Quality Councils, SETAs, Government, Business, Labour, Education and Training Providers, Community Constituencies, Research Institutions, Professional Bodies and the general public.
The Public hearings will inform the NSA advice to the Minister with respect to the gazette calling for public comments on the proposed new landscape for Sector Education and Training Authorities post 31 March 2020 and issues such as: workplace-based skills development, encouraging the link of skills development to career paths and promoting sustainable employment.
